In amongst seeing in skirt at Jean Paul Gaultier F/W 2011-2012 and women in tailored suits at Dolce & Gabbana I am starting to wonder, is the definition of gender in fashion changing? Androgyny has been a key trend for quite some time now, but I wonder if we have surpassed androgyny altogether.
Seeing the beautiful Andrej Pejic in a dress a shock to some, but was it an eye-opener for the fashion world? Is gender even relevant any more? If anything, fashion should teach us that we can be anyone we want to be, regardless of our gender, sexuality, nationality, if we act the part and, most importantly, look the part.
Is fashion changing the way we define gender? Aside from an identity, can it be a look, a shape, a colour or even a fabric?
